Introducing La Vernia’s interim superintendent

Introducing La Vernia’s interim superintendent
Linda Bettin

The La Vernia Independent School District (ISD) has an interim superintendent, following a decision by the district’s trustees Oct. 29. Former Falls City Superintendent Linda Bettin took the helm in La Vernia Nov. 4, replacing Dr. Tom Harvey, who retired last month.

Despite her hectic first days in her new role, Bettin took a few minutes to answer a few questions from the La Vernia News, to allow us to introduce her to you.

Q. You came out of retirement after leaving Falls City ISD. What appealed about the interim role in La Vernia?

A. I have always had a special place in my heart for La Vernia. I was assistant superintendent here for three years and the whole district worked hard in improving instruction for all students.

Q: Please tell us a little about your background -- education, family, any hobbies or interests.

A: I graduated from Karnes City High School. I attended Texas State University where I earned my bachelor’s degree, masters of education, and my superintendent’s certification. I have three grown children Jennifer, Kori, and Brian ...and six grandchildren under the age of 3 and another on the way.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish in your new role?

A: The first and foremost goal as interim superintendent is to work with the community and staff to develop La Vernia ISD as a premier educational institution that challenges and educates all students.

Q: Can you share an interesting fact few people may know about you?

I have always wanted a red Volkswagon “Beetle.” I love chocolate and not just on stressful days! And I like “Top Gear” and “Big Bang Theory” on television.
