Praying for others

It seems that prayer is important when there is an emergency or when we need something. We have all prayed not only for ourselves but also for others at one time or another and have asked God to please answer our prayers. This is intercessory prayer.

In the Bible we find a man that was not just chosen to deliver the Israelites out of Egypt; he was an intercessor. The account is found in Exodus chapter 32, verses 7-14 and 30-35. In order for God to accomplish His will in the lives of the Israelites, Moses had to pray and intercede for them because on their own they were easily discouraged. Many times he prayed that they would be spared from the wrath of God for their sins. He also asked God to feed the people because they were tired of their daily diet. Moses was constantly interceding for one thing or another without giving up. He was the in-between person between God and the Israelites and God heard his prayers.

Why did God answer his prayers? He was unselfish, sacrificed his own meals and sleep to stand for the needs of others, he was sincere in his requests, and he was dedicated to the cause. Moses prayed all the time because he cared for God’s people. He did not wait until there was an emergency.

Intercessory prayer is the duty of every believer. Without our prayer, many will not get to know Jesus or be healed. If we cannot get out there and witness to people, at least we can sacrifice our time and be dedicated to stand in the gap by praying and interceding for others whether they have a need or not. God will answer our prayers as he did Moses’ because God is faithful to His Word.

If you have a need and would like for someone to pray with you, please call the church office at 830-779-6361. We also have prayer meetings every Friday at 6 p.m. in the small chapel. Everyone is invited.
