Accepting God’s gift

It’s almost Christmas and people will be opening gifts from family and friends but will they open their gift from God? Are they as anxious about receiving God’s gift? People are often more excited about the festivities and forget God’s gift to man.

God prepared a gift for each one of us many years ago. It wasn’t wrapped in wrapping paper or a gift bag; it was wrapped in cloth and lay quietly on a manger. His gift to us was His only son, Jesus. From the beginning of time, Adam and Eve disobeyed God and consequently all men became sinners separated from God.

The only way to erase that sin was through the shedding of the blood of Jesus Christ but He had to be born and become man just as you and I. The baby in the manger was only the beginning, He grew up and gave up His life so that we would be forgiven of all of our sin and have eternal life. What a gift!

That gift is still available to us. Each one of us individually must unwrap that gift and receive the salvation that God has provided for us. Everyone has that opportunity but it is up to us to take it or leave it. Even if we get hundreds of gifts, none can compare to the gift of Jesus Christ. He is the only gift that will save us from sin and give us eternal life.

Christmas is a fun time but let us not forget that Jesus is the reason for the season. And let us focus on the greatest gift of all; our salvation. Yes, we can enjoy gifts from family and friends but the important thing is to know that you have opened God’s gift for your life and that He has saved you.
