The signs of the season

Christmas is fast approaching! This is such a busy time of year but it should be a time of rejoicing in the love of God and His gift for us.

Have you finished your Christmas card list? Do you write a note on many of your cards? And are the cards coming in from family and friends? It is a joy to hear from them and sometimes you get a card from someone that you haven’t heard from in ages and it brings such a special message. Each one reminds us that Jesus is our Savior and He was willing to give up living in Heaven to come to earth for us. What a beautiful gift! The message from God is in Matthew 3:17 with these words, “This is My Son, whom I love, with Him I am well pleased.” God sent His Son for us. What love!

How about decorating the house? Do you put up lights outside? It is a lot of work, but it brings joy to those that see them. As you go through the neighborhood and enjoy the lights, each reminds us that Jesus is the Light of the World. “When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, ’I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life’” (John 8:12).

And when we see the Christmas tree, we can rejoice in the greatest example of love ever. Christ was willing to leave the perfection of Heaven to come to earth, knowing that He would die on the cross (the tree) and prepare the way for us to spend eternity with Him. “And in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which He put to death their hostility” (Eph 2:16). And in Col. 1:20 we read, “and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross.”

And when you see the gifts under the tree, we can live in His presence forever because He loved us so much that He sent His only Son to earth for us. “For God so loved the earth, that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

We can also rejoice in the gift of the fruit of the Spirit; “but the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:19-26). God’s gifts to us are vast and each filled with His love all desiring that we spend time with Him in prayer and travel with Him in our every area of life. Let’s turn to Him in all things and spread the message of the love of God to all through this beautiful season and all the years to come. Praise the name of the Lord.
