No fireworks on July 4

It’s official. There will be no fireworks permitted in Wilson County to celebrate Independence Day.

This follows a June 15 disaster declaration approved by Gov. Rick Perry, which prohibits the “sale, use, transportation, or ignition of incendiary devices, including all fireworks and any pyrotechnical material” in Wilson County, according to a letter from Perry to Wilson County Judge Marvin Quinney.

Quinney signed a local disaster declaration June 13, prohibiting the sale and use of fireworks for a 60-hour period, due to the ongoing drought and heightened fire danger. He asked the governor’s office to extend this ban, which is in effect through July 5.

Following this declaration, the city of Floresville chose to cancel the fireworks planned to close the city’s July 4 celebrations in the Floresville River Park and the Floresville Event Center.
