Using your superpowers

We love heroes, especially when they’re the underdog and they get a chance to save the day.

Just look at the plethora of hero comics, movies, stories, and more around us David slays Goliath, Daniel survives the lions’ den, Clark Kent becomes Superman, Peter Parker becomes Spider-Man. There was even a series in the 1980s “The Greatest American Hero” about a schoolteacher who finds an alien suit, discovers he gets superpowers when he wears it, and goes around doing good -- or trying to.

We are those heroes. Not that we can fly, or leap tall buildings in a single bound.

But God tells us that if we truly believe, we can do not just good, but great things. In the name of Jesus, we can heal, cast out demons, and more. If we believe.

I say that I believe. I really feel that I do. But I don’t know that I’ve ever cast out a demon.

I know a pastor who tells me miracles still occur. He sees them. They are possible, he says. If we believe.

Jesus said the same thing.

“Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages é They will lay hands on the sick and they will recover” (Mark 16:16-18).

In 1 Cor. 12, we are told that in belief and through the Holy Spirit, various gifts are given to us by God some receive wisdom, others express knowledge, some healing, others perform mighty deeds, some prophesy, some speak in tongues, and others interpret tongues.

Do I truly believe? If so, I am a hero in God’s eyes. He’s waiting for me to be that hero for someone in my life.

What am I waiting for? Superpowers?

With God, all things are possible!

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it Superman?

Believe it or not, it’s just me ...believing in God, living in His grace!
