Trying for all the ‘free’ money

Headline from

Press Release

“The Federal Grants and Loans Directory is now available. Our new and revised 2014 edition contains more than 2800 financial programs, subsidies, scholarships, grants, and loans offered by the US federal government.”

Between the Lines

That’s a lot of “free” stuff, but you might ask where the government gets its money. It’s not like the government has invented some very popular widget and gotten rich. The government gets money from us, the U.S. taxpayers. It’s our money. We have to send it to Washington and Washington doles it out piecemeal through subsidies such as food stamps, grants, and scholarships.

Personally, I would rather be able to keep my money. Too much of it is lost to the bureaucracy on that long trip to and from Washington.

“Hollywood hypocrite to target NRA

“Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has made a bloody fortune out of making extremely violent films such as “Kill Bill,” “Django Unchained,” “Rambo,” ... [that] glorified guns and violence ... .”

Between the Lines

Now that he’s made all that money off of violence, he has vowed to make the NRA “wish they weren’t alive.”

That sounds ugly, like his ugly movies. It’s “Do as I say, not as I do.”

Press Release

“State still leaving $59M in annual federal aid on the table

“A new national report finds that sixty-one low-income Texas children ate school breakfast for every 100 that received subsidized school lunch in the last school year.”

Between the Lines

The report worries about another $59M that potentially could be “flowing to Texas.” The problem is, that $59M is more of the same federally subsidized programs that are all paid for with our tax money.

Many would agree with Gov. Perry that Texas is better off if it could keep the money instead of sending it to Washington to be siphoned off and redistributed back to the states. This press release also claimed that these programs are operated “at no cost to the state.”

How do they think the program is funded? There is a cost, and it is paid by taxpayers!

“Now It Makes a Difference: Clinton Says Benghazi ‘Biggest Regret’

Between the Lines

Oh sure. Now former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton regrets how she handled the Benghazi affair -- now that she is a potential Democratic presidential nominee. Too late, Ms. Clinton! Your failure to act and take responsibility led to the deaths of four Americans. Some of us find that unforgiveable.

“Our brief will be filed with the Supreme Court tomorrow.

“We make clear to each of the nine Supreme Court Justices: Catholics ... want the Court to rule in favor of Hobby Lobby ... .”

Between the Lines

Hobby Lobby, a company well known for its Christian principles, has to go to court to challenge the Obamacare mandates that require companies to pay for abortifacients as part of its employee insurance plan.

Many Christians find that highly offensive.
