Jesus is the Lighthouse

In Proverbs 18:10, the Bible says: “The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.” When I read this verse I think of a lighthouse. I’ve never had the privilege of seeing a real lighthouse but I love pictures of lighthouses. The scene is usually that of a lighthouse sitting on and surrounded by huge rocks at the edge of the ocean. Wild and crazy waves are beating on its sides and because of the waves the sky is foggy. The picture would be dull except for the bright light that shines through the fog and the storms. During a storm, it is the light that ships look for to help guide them and to prevent shipwrecks.

When I visualize this picture I think of another verse. Psalms 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation, so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?” As we journey through life, sometimes all we see are the storms and the fog. It is hard to navigate through life when we are consumed with things around us. We are like a ship in a storm. As our life tosses and turns and fills with situations, we look down and right in front of us instead of looking for the beacon, which is Christ Jesus to guide us to safety. In Isaiah 43:2 God tells me: “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.”

With Jesus, there is no need to be afraid of anything because He will be with us. When we toss and turn in the murky problems of life, we will not drown and we will not be consumed by them. You may say it is easier said than done but if you will bend your knees wherever you are and ask Him to help you, He will be right there. Psalms 34:17 promises: “The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.”

Tired of fighting the storms? Come to Jesus; He will give you rest. If you would like for someone to pray with you, call 830-779-6361 or come to our prayer meeting on Friday evening at 6 p.m. in the small chapel.

If you do not have a home church, we invite you to our services at La Vernia Christian Teaching Center. Sunday services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday Bible study is at 7 p.m. On Saturdays, the gym is open from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
