Scripture teaches us God is the Master Gardener

It is at this time of the year that we plant gardens. Maybe you have a garden of flowers that makes the area so beautiful when you enjoy the look of each flower. Maybe it is your goal to grow vegetables, to feed your family and to share with those around you. Whatever your desire, it is work and some people just have a “green thumb” that others don’t!

You may be one that can take a plant that is having a terrible time growing, it is limp, it is fading, but because of your work and your attention the plant continues to grow and begins to make big changes and to become alive; if it is a flowering plant, the flowers began to bloom. If it is a vegetable plant, the vegetable begins to come out and to grow and you can enjoy the wonderful, healthy, and tasty meal that will result.

Do you know someone that would classify as a master gardener because of their work, their ability, their knowledge? Let’s look at the Master Gardener who we can look to in the scriptures.

In the beginning when God created man, He told Adam in Genesis 2:15, “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” He placed His creation in the Garden and bestowed His love upon mankind. A beautiful garden that is way beyond our imagination; our thoughts.

And in Isaiah 58:11 we have the following words, “The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.”

He is the Master Gardener in our lives, guiding us and strengthening us each day with His love and direction. “I am the true vine and My Father is the gardener” (John 15:1). Christ tells us that our Heavenly Father is the Gardener in our lives. He takes us when we are fading like the plants we discussed earlier and because of His watering He fills our lives with His love and we are a new creature in Him.

You are invited to worship with us at La Vernia United Methodist Church each Sunday as we look to our Heavenly Father, the Master Gardener, to direct ours lives, His way. There is a traditional service at 8:30 a.m. and a contemporary service at 11 a.m. with a Sunday school class that is just right for you at 10 a.m. Here we can worship Christ and know that we will be born again with His love and we will be new in Him, the Master Gardener.
