Need Help? Call on Jesus

“Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves. Psalm 107:28-29, how many times have we yelled out “Lord, help me”? Usually when it comes to calling on the Lord, it is because we have exhausted all of our options and there is nowhere else to turn.

In the Bible, we read of several people who called on God and God heard them. Have you ever wondered why we don’t call on Him more than we do? In reality, we forget about God because He is not the center of our lives. I am reminded of Jesus’ disciples who withdrew from the crowds after a long day of ministering. They thought they were going to relax but they encountered unexpected turbulence. Even though they had Jesus in the boat with them, they struggled with the sails as the wind blew them off course and maybe even tipped the ship enough to let some water on board.

They were hard at work dumping out the water and holding on for dear life when they remembered that Jesus was on board! They ran to Jesus and said, “Lord, help us!” What a relief that must have been when Jesus awoke from His nap and calmed the sea. In fact, I bet Jesus might have been pretending to be asleep wondering when they were going to ask for His help! I am sure Jesus was tossed back and forth in the boat and He may have even been drenched but He was watching over them and patiently waiting for them to ask for His help.

Life is full of challenges, as we journey through life but Jesus is the lifeline that will save us from any situation. He is there to help us if we would just let Him. He is the only One who can calm the storms in our life and help us through situations. He is the only one who can bring true peace into our hearts. If you find yourself sinking and drowning in life, reach out to Jesus. He is not asleep. He is waiting for you to give up doing things on your own. He is waiting for your call.
