Soros, Koch brothers in political battle

Headline from

Campaign email

“We don’t mean to nag, but President Obama, Vice President Biden and Nancy Pelosi have all asked for your help and we are still lagging dangerously behind.

“This is the final notice of your member status before the fundraising deadline.

“We need a HUGE day today to respond to the unprecedented attacks we’re facing from the Kochs. .... Will you chip in whatever you can now?

Between the Lines

An “Express” donation of $5 was suggested.

You know, I’ve heard an awful lot about these Koch brothers lately; haven’t you? Never heard of them before, but now they are in the news big time. They have the Democrats worried about how much money is being raised and what projects the Koch brothers are actually funding with their billions.

Headline from

NYTimes.com

“Senate Majority PAC, a group that supports Democratic Senate candidates, is preparing a $3 million advertising campaign against Charles G. Koch and David H. Koch, the libertarian-minded billionaire brothers who support conservative causes and have already poured millions of dollars into the 2014 midterm elections.”

Between the Lines

This $3 million advertising blitz is on top of the $3.6 million the Senate Majority PAC has already spent on TV ads in this campaign, according to The New York Times.

They are worried about the Koch brothers, but are unconcerned with their own buddy, George Soros, and his billions.

Headline from

Forbes.com

“2013 Earnings: $4 billion

The legend continues. In 2013, George Soros had a pretty good year.”

Between the Lines

Wikipedia lists Soros as a generous supporter of progressive-liberal political causes, and credits him for contributing more than $8 billion over the last 30 years or so to his causes. Many credit him and his $29 billion family business with bankrolling the Obama campaign and his subsequent rise to fame.

Who is richer -- George Soros or the Koch brothers -- is probably anybody’s guess. We are just the little people in America trying to figure out who is pulling the strings and funneling the most money into which causes. It’s no doubt that these guys are all incredibly rich and are very big spenders when it comes to their favorite political causes and candidates.

This much we do know. The liberals are mightily worried about the Kochs’ fortune, and the conservatives fear George Soros just as much. All we can do is cast our vote as best we can in this election 2014.

Press Release

“USDA Rural Development Texas State ... is seeking applications from cooperatives to provide technical assistance ... Funding will be made available through USDA Rural Development’s Small, Socially Disadvantaged Producer Grant program.”

Between the Lines

Grants are up to $200,000. I know disadvantaged when I see it, but must look up the definition of “socially” disadvantaged.

Perhaps there is someone around La Vernia who can qualify. There’s money just waiting for redistribution. Deadline is June 30, so time is short. Check the USDA website.
