LVUMC teaches children of God’s abounding love

What an absolute joy when a new little one enters our family; our lives are enriched! We look for the first smile, the first step, the first word, and every action brings joy. What did Jesus say about the children in His Word? People were bringing little children to Jesus to have Him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, He was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth; anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And He took the children in His arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them. We are to take the babies, the children to Jesus so that they may know Him as their Savior and be part of the kingdom of God.

At La Vernia United Methodist Church there are several ministries of love for the children and the guidance for them to know Jesus. One of these ministries is the day care. Each day children are guided in Jesus’ love and told of His love in words and actions. It is a joy to watch the children play and just enjoy life. They are truly a blessing.

On Sundays there are several ministries for the children. There is a nursery for the little ones during the services. Here the parents can place them in a loving atmosphere and know that they are being cared for in a beautiful way. There are Sunday school classes for all age groups and the teachers that minister to the little ones are guided by our Lord and Savior and radiate the love of Christ in their teaching, in their words, in their actions. Each class is geared for the age of the children and they are told about the love of God in a manner that is perfect for their age.

During the services there is a time of a children’s sermon. In the early service (the traditional service) this ministry is led by Patsy Mehr and in the contemporary service at 11 a.m., the message is given by Megan Brown. This is a beautiful time of the children coming forward to hear God’s Word and they are blessed by the scripture and the story that they hear. The adults also are richly blessed as they are challenged by the message, or they are inspired by the message or they are simply entertained. All in all, it is a time that is very special for all in attendance, especially the children.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them.” Let’s always seek to lead the children to Jesus and tell them always of the great love of Christ and share that love together with them.
