City begins drainage, traffic survey
ERIC MORENO — Community members discuss drainage and traffic issues with Brady Kosub of M&S Engineering June 26 during a town hall meeting in La Vernia City Hall.

La Vernia city residents are invited to share concerns about flooding, drainage, or traffic issues, as part of the city’s survey of these issues.

The La Vernia City Council held a special town hall meeting June 26 at City Hall to invite input. The council recently contracted M&S Engineering of Spring Branch to conduct a comprehensive survey of the city’s traffic flow and drainage situations.

The open house forum offered residents an opportunity to discuss traffic and flooding problems with representatives from M&S, so that they may add and/or adjust their recommendations accordingly.

“This is a first step towards developing a plan to make sure our city’s infrastructure is where it needs to be, going forward,” said Mayor Robert Gregory. “I think I can speak for my fellow council members when I say that we want to be responsible to provide the services we were elected to provide. That’s what we are here for and that’s what we are here to do. This meeting is the start of that.”

Thomas Turk and Brady Kosub of M&S Engineering outlined the project and took comments and suggestions from the citizens in attendance. The next steps in the project will be revamping of the city’s current master plan and developing a recommendation for a capital improvement plan.

“We have really only been on the job for about two or three weeks,” Turk said. “Some of you have lived here for your entire lives. You know where the flooding problems are. You know the streets where traffic is bad. We want that kind of information from you, so we can add that to our planning.”

La Vernia residents are encouraged to contact M&S Engineering, 830-228-5446, to share firsthand accounts of flooding, drainage, or traffic problems and concerns.

Another town hall meeting will be held at in October; a date and time have yet to be confirmed. At that time, M&S Engineering will unveil the revamped plan, as well as accept additional comments from citizens.
