Don’t fall victim to identity theft

“I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High” Psalm 82:6.

Far too often believers fall victim to identify theft. Not the identity theft we are accustomed to hearing about involving bank and credit card fraud, but a more destructive and debilitating theft that goes back to the Garden of Eden.

In the beginning, at Creation, the Bible tells us in Genesis 1:26, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” He breathed His Spirit in man and gave him dominion over the earth. Lucifer, desiring to rise above the throne of the Most High, set out to steal man’s identity by enticing Adam and Eve to believe a lie. He still uses this tactic in the lives of believers today. Most of us have allowed the enemy of God to deceive us into believing we are powerless to change our circumstances, heal our bodies, and live the abundant life purchased for us by the redemptive work of Christ on the cross.

In order to restore us to our created likeness and image of God, Jesus emptied himself, taking on the likeness of man and humbled himself, being tempted in all things, as we are tempted, yet refusing to deny His true identity, demonstrating for us the power we have within us. “But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men” Philippians 2:7.

He became flesh and dwelt among us and continues to live in us through his Holy Spirit. “In whom ye also are builded together for a habitation of God through the Spirit” Ephesians 2:22. We have inherited the true nature of the Father. His identity is in us, yet we allow Satan to steal our inheritance and rob us of the power and authority given to us.

“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you” Romans 8:11.

As Christians, we need to guard and protect our identity, but first we must take it back from the enemy and discover the real power we have to overcome adversity in our lives. Scripture tells us that “as He is, so are we in this world” 1 John 4:17. We are to demonstrate God’s love, power, and authority in the earth today by putting on the full armor of God and holding fast to our true identity in Him.

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil” Ephesians 6:11. “But that which ye have already hold fast till I come” Revelation 2:25.
