The Word of God your best survivor kit

Going through some things this week I found a Survivor Kit a friend gave me a few years ago. I found it at a great time. I’d had several things not go just right for a few days and had begun to feel é well, just out of sorts. I like things to go smooth or at least be able to work around some setbacks. I love predictable. Of course life isn’t like that, is it?

So as I looked at this kit I had to laugh to myself. I could use everything in it. A marble for when you feel like you’re losing yours. A rubber band so you can stretch yourself beyond your limits. A balloon for when you feel like you’re about to pop. A string to tie things together when they’re falling apart. And finally, a chocolate kiss your reward for hanging in there.

Then I got to thinking about the best Survivor Kit I know of, the Word of God. First I found in Luke 12:29 that the Lord knows our problems and what we need and He will provide. We are not to seek solutions on our own é nor have an anxious mind. And in Philippians 3:13 Paul spoke of forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward, stretching to those things which are ahead. And I didn’t look it up but don’t you think Job’s wife was about to pop when she told Job to curse God and die? In Ecclesiastes 4:12, a threefold cord is not easily broken and in Hosea 11:4, I drew them with gentle cords, with bands of love, speaking of how God held Israel together and provided for them. So that’s the biblical Survival Kit equivalent. Oh, I didn’t forget the reward, just couldn’t find chocolate in the concordance. I found a favorite reward in Psalm 91:15-16. There are numerous others but I will let you look for them.

We tend to forget sometimes that there is much more to life than just survival. God has a plan for each of us, not the same kind of plan but he knows what we are capable of and what our weaknesses are. And best of all He knows our hearts. Walking with Him is never boring. If I get bored it’s because I’m trying to lead instead of following. And that doesn’t mean I’m pushing ahead; it’s usually because I’ve grown comfortable and don’t want to move.

If your life seems out of sorts maybe you’d like to visit with us at First Baptist Church and learn more about our Survivor Kit. God has a plan for each of us and if we walk with Him it will be easier to sort things out. We have two worship services on Sunday morning. If you’re an early riser the 8:10 a.m. service may be for you; others may prefer the 10:45 a.m. service. We have Bible study and Sunday school classes for every age group at 9:35 a.m. with several choices for adults. We’re sure there’s one just right for you. You can call the church office at 830-253-1239 if you have any questions about our scheduled services or special events. Someone will be happy to give you the requested information. We look forward to sharing our worship time with you.

Have a great week and give God the glory!
