Enjoy National Night Out Oct. 7
NANNETTE KILBEY-SMITH — La Vernia Mayor Robert Gregory (center) presents a proclamation Sept. 25, declaring Oct. 7 as National Night Out in La Vernia and inviting everyone to the city park next Tuesday evening for food and fun, and to learn about community safety. Joining him are (from left) La Vernia Police Department Officer Charles Patty, McGruff the Crime Dog, Sparky the Fire Dog, and Chief Jason Scheel of the La Vernia Volunteer Fire Department.

Join friends and neighbors in the La Vernia City Park on Tuesday, Oct. 7, to enjoy National Night Out -- “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”

Enjoy free food, music, and refreshments in the park from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Kids can meet McGruff the Crime Dog and Sparky the fire department mascot, as well as the La Vernia High School Bear mascots. Members of the Boy Scouts will offer child fingerprinting for safety purposes.

San Antonio AirLife will be on-site, as well as the Schertz EMS Ambus.

Hosted by the La Vernia Volunteer Fire Department, La Vernia Police Department, and La Vernia EMS, this community event promotes involvement in crime-prevention activities, police-community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie. Communities across Texas send a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
