Cross your fingers, hope that Ebola does not come here

“Stiffer testing under review for passengers from Africa

“President Obama said Monday that the US government is considering ordering more careful screening of airline passengers arriving from West Africa, é .”

Between the Lines

He is considering????

Really? We already have a person who came to America carrying the disease. He is critically ill in a hospital while those around him are quarantined. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been on the news saying that travel from West Africa is not being restricted because “that could make it worse.” Besides, we are assured we have to come into direct contact with bodily fluids from a person who is already showing signs of the disease.

If it is that difficult to contract Ebola, how is it that doctors and nurses are getting it? Two American doctors already have been successfully treated for Ebola, and a nurse in Spain now has contracted it. If trained medical professionals are catching it, how is it that we are told it won’t spread in the United States?

Early signs of Ebola are a fever and sneezing. Does it start to spread with that first sneeze or does the fever come first? The administration tells us not to worry. “We are not West Africa.”

Obama will not restrict people coming from West Africa because we have safeguards in place. When passengers from West Africa board the plane to America, they are asked: “Have you been exposed to Ebola?” Those, like the guy who flew to Dallas, will lie to save their life. They know they can be treated in the United States, but would be left to die in Africa.

Asking passengers if they are at risk for catching Ebola does about as much good as Homeland Security asking passengers if anyone unknown to you asked you to carry an item on the plane, or “Have any of the items you are traveling with been out of your immediate control.” What will “stiffer” measures be asking passengers, “Are you sure? Are you really, really, really sure that you have not been exposed to Ebola?”

Meanwhile, there are only 23 hospitals in the United States equipped to handle Ebola patients, and one of them is obviously not in Dallas, where the supply of a preferred drug for treating Ebola has been exhausted. They are trying an experimental drug instead.

“Obama is sinking in the polls.”

Between the Line

So, what’s wrong with this picture? While President Barack Obama is sinking, so is the whole country.

The fact that the Republicans are doing nothing to sustain their party or to give voters a choice, means that the country is sinking along with the president. There goes all our hope for “change.”
