Cross-country teams look toward district titles
Luke Roswelll and Landon Collins display their individual and team medals following the Navarro meet. Collins finished first in the eighth-grade boys race, while Roswell finished fifth. The Bears finished second in the team standings.

In their last meet before the district championships, La Vernia’s cross-country teams look like they will once again be among the favorites.

The high school girls teams took both of the Navarro Invitational team titles, while the varsity boys placed behind two very strong teams from Antonian and Luling. The junior varsity boys finished second.

“District will certainly be tougher than in years past,” said Head Coach Richard Hinojosa. “Our kids have been working hard, and they are up for the challenge.”

The district meet was scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Starcke Park in Seguin. The varsity girls were scheduled to race at 9 a.m., followed by the varsity boys at 10 a.m. The junior varsity girls and boys will run at 10 and 10:30 a.m., respectively, followed by the junior high girls and boys at 4 and 4:30 p.m.

At the Oct. 11 Navarro Cross Country Meet, the varsity girls team finished first. Olivia Hinojosa led the team with her third-place finish, followed by Isabel De La Fuente in seventh. Dakota Guerrero finished ninth, Erin Tuttle was 18th, Sabrina Wolf was 20th, Elizabeth Moczygemba finished 23rd, and Annie Dirks was 27th overall.

The varsity boys team finished third in the standings. Andrew Cribb led the team with his second-place finish, followed by Tate Gregory in ninth place and Gage Brandt in 14th. Bobby Gonzalez was 19th, Aaron Duelm was 23rd, and Josh Krueger finished 46th.
