Junior high forms first-ever soccer teams
Members of the La Vernia Junior High School seventh-grade soccer team celebrate after winning their first-ever game by the score of 1-0 over Twain Middle School in San Antonio.

La Vernia Junior High School had an amazing turn out recently for the first-ever girls soccer team tryouts.

Coach David Chavez had his expectations exceeded when the large group of girls showed up each afternoon for the weeklong tryout. Selections were made for the team on Thursday, and the girls had their first game on Oct. 25 at Twain Middle School in San Antonio.

The seventh-grade girls brought home a win with a final score of 1-0, while the eighth-grade team suffered a 5-1 loss. The girls played two 25-minute halves during their games.

The junior high soccer teams were set to play their first home games on Nov. 1 at Bear Stadium. The school encourages all La Vernia residents to go out and support the girls soccer teams, while they make history by playing the first soccer season ever.
