Enjoy Labor Day Music Fest Sept. 3-4
ELAINE KOLODZIEJ Kicaster Country Store on F.M. 3432 near La Vernia, formerly Kicaster Korner, has new owners and will host its inaugural Labor Day Music Fest Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 3-4.

Fans of Texas music and local musicians can soak up some great entertainment this Labor Day weekend during the Kicaster Country Store’s inaugural Labor Day Music Fest.

The Kicaster Country Store has booked 11 entertainers for its first Labor Day Music Fest on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 3-4. The family-friendly festival, which is planned to become an annual event, is free and open to the public.

The music festival will kick off at 8 p.m. Saturday, when the “Ruben V Band” takes the stage. Ruben and his band will bring their blend of blues, Latin, jazz, country, and rock. Hailed as San Antonio’s “Best Guitar Player,” Ruben and his band mates are a great first act for this new festival.

On Sunday, the entertainment will begin at 2 p.m., with live music continuing through 11:45 p.m. Country bands performing include Jack Higginbotham, a La Vernia High School graduate whose band has joined the Texas regional music scene; the “South Texas Wranglers,” La Vernia and San Antonio musicians who perform everything from classic country to southern rock; and Cliff Barrow and “Red Handed,” a San Antonio Realtor and his band that has quickly become a Kicaster crowd favorite. Festival organizers also are proud to include “21Black,” a rock/blues band based in San Antonio.

Throughout the day, acoustical sets will be performed by local musicians Rick Dorrough, the “April Hall Band,” “Tom and Lisa,” “Back Roads,” TR Hall, and Carly Green.

Proceeds from a fund-raiser during the event will benefit the Kicaster Volunteer Fire Department. Prizes include an iPad 2 with Wi-Fi.

Labor Day Music Fest sponsors include the Wilson County News, Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union, KC Custom Homes, Mission Gas, Abrego Lake/Eden Crossing, Falkin Realty, South Texas Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, Sunbelt Rentals, Loan Star Mortgage, White Lightning Liquor, the Lone Star Barber Shop, Denis Debug, and Jacob’s Ladder Painting.

Kicaster Country Store’s kitchen will be open, offering certified Black Angus burgers, gourmet Cobb salad, appetizers, beer, wine, tea, bottled water, and soda.

Kicaster Country Store is located at 2239 F.M. 3432 in Adkins, at the corner of C.R. 324 and F.M. 3432 between Loop 1604 and F.M. 775 near La Vernia. The venue is smoke-free inside. Children are welcome.
