Celebrating the season simply

This past Sunday it was so nice to stand and sing Christmas hymns most of us are familiar with. I would guess the majority of those in the first service remember those songs from our childhood years. It just felt good to sing the songs, no commercial pitch, and no big sale signs, just the songs. And they are all about what Christmas should be about, the reason we celebrate. The greatest gift any of us will ever receive, that is the reason for the season.

I love this time of year and all the festivities of the month of December. Our church has so many things on the calendar already and I know there are more being planned. The choir will present a musical on Dec. 12 and again on the 16, both nights at 6 p.m. Commercial free entertainment, how simple. These aren’t for members only but anyone who would like to come, consider it the choir’s gift to you.

I’ve learned that the changes in my life have changed the way I celebrate the seasons. I don’t cook the big meals but instead go to be with family. I don’t decorate the way I used to but I still have a little tree and little village I enjoy putting out because it reminds me of a simpler time when it was about God’s gift to us and being with family, not so commercialized. And I still love to sing the old Christmas hymns.

God has a gift for each of us. Have you opened yours? Have a great week and give God the glory!
