Catch the 'Spirit of Christmas'
Members of the La Vernia Parks Foundation and the La Vernia Lions Club help assemble the community Christmas tree in the La Vernia City Park, preparing for the “Spirit of Christmas” tree lighting this Saturday, Dec. 6. Everyone is invited to enjoy snow, hot chocolate, and festive cheer during this free annual event.

Kick off your Christmas season with the La Vernia Parks Foundation’s annual “Spirit of Christmas” tree-lighting event this Saturday, Dec. 6, in the La Vernia City Park.

Kids of all ages can enjoy free family-friendly fun from 5 p.m., including “snow,” an ice slide, a Christmas movie, cookie decorating, and hot chocolate. Little folks can ride the choo-choo train. Santa -- accompanied by his lovely helpers, the Miss La Vernia court members -- will listen to children’s Christmas wishes.

Each year, the parks foundation dedicates the event to special honorees, whose names aren’t revealed until the night of the tree lighting. The ceremony starts at 5:30 p.m.

“We honor people who’ve done a lot in our community,” said parks foundation President Dennis Snow. “It means a lot to them.”

After the ceremony, the Christmas tree will be lit, signaling the start of the holidays in La Vernia.
