Group offers $5K for info on dog death

The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of those responsible for killing a dog and dumping its body near the Scull Crossing bridge on C.R. 347 northeast of here. The bridge spans the Cibolo Creek at the Guadalupe County line.

The male Golden Retriever mix’s body was found Dec. 12 with a cord wrapped around its muzzle and throat. According to Investigator Richard Nichols of the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, there is no indication whether the dog was killed there or if its body was dumped at that location.

Despite talk to the contrary, Nichols said the sheriff’s office has not taken any other reports of dead animals being dumped in the area. No witnesses have come forward with information about who might have dumped the dog.

“We will fully investigate if there’s a lead,” Nichols said.

Officials with the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office have taken two reports this year of live dogs being dumped in the Scull Crossing area, said sheriff’s Sgt. Zachary McBride. Last year, four such reports were taken. However, he could not locate any records relating to dead animals being located there.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office at 830-393-2535.

Anonymous tips -- for which cash rewards are available if the information leads to an arrest -- can be furnished to Crime Stoppers of Wilson County at 830-393-INFO 4636) or http://bit.ly/NDrIut.
