By La Vernia News Staff

An evening drivetime crash has left a La Vernia woman dead. The accident near the intersection of U.S. 87 and Oak Hill Road just south of La Vernia occurred Sept. 9, just after 6:30 p.m.
Ashley A. Fewell, 20, was traveling southbound on U.S. 87 in a Chevrolet Equinox, when a blowout on a tractor-trailer rig traveling north on the highway sent the rig into oncoming traffic.
Fewell was pronounced dead at the scene by Wilson County Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Richard L. “Dickie” Jackson.
La Vernia EMS and fire department members responded to the scene, along with members of the La Vernia Police Department, Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, and troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol, including Cpl. Javier Reyes and the DPS Commercial Vehicle Enforcement unit from San Antonio.
Services for Fewell are set for Thursday, Sept. 15. Her obituary can be found on page 3.
