Isaiah C. Guardiola, 21, of McQueeney has been charged with eight counts of deadly conduct discharging a firearm for his alleged role in a string of incidents in which vehicles and homes in western Guadalupe County were shot March 4-5. He is being held in the Guadalupe County Adult Detention Center in lieu of $167,000 total bond, as he also is charged with possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana and evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.

Sheriff’s Lt. Jerry Rios, one of the case’s investigators, credits two witnesses who briefly encountered the gunman in the parking lot of Luensmann’s Ice House on F.M. 775 in New Berlin with helping officials generate a composite sketch that led to Guardiola’s capture March 7. A man had gone out to his vehicle at approximately 12:30 a.m. and saw someone standing nearby while holding an “AR-15” style rifle, Rios said. The complainant’s wife then came out of the bar, also saw the suspect, and quickly got into the vehicle before the pair drove away and reported the incident.

Officials believe Guardiola is the suspect responsible for incidents including:

•March 4, approximately 11 p.m., someone shot at a home on Riley Road in Seguin while a family slept inside. The suspect fled toward I-10 in a vehicle of an unknown description.

•March 5, approximately 12:20 a.m., a motorist on F.M. 467 reported suffering minor injuries from broken glass that resulted from being shot at by the driver of a dark-colored, older-model sport-utility vehicle (SUV). The suspect initially had been traveling in the opposite direction, but then turned around and began following the victim, and fired at the victim as he passed.

•March 5, approximately 4 a.m., a complainant reported finding multiple bullet holes in the windshield and body of his vehicle parked on Schumann Road in McQueeney. Rounds also entered a nearby building and an adjacent vehicle. A witness who reported hearing the gunfire said he saw a dark-colored SUV being driven away from the scene.

•March 5, approximately 8 a.m., deputies were informed of several vehicles that had been shot on Stagecoach Road west of Seguin.

Guardiola was apprehended following a vehicular pursuit with sheriff’s Sgt. Mark Reyes, who reported seeing the suspect driving a Chevrolet Tahoe the wrong way and at a high rate of speed on F.M. 725 in McQueeney. A witness reported seeing Guardiola toss an “AR-15-style rifle” from the vehicle’s window as he attempted to elude the officer in a recreational vehicle park. The weapon was recovered.

Officials urge anyone with additional information to call the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office at 830-379-1224.
