LVISD has new athletic director, head coach
Brandon Layne

Brandon Layne is the new athletic director and head football coach for the La Vernia Independent School District (ISD), following an April 6 decision by the district’s board of trustees.

Layne has more than 10 years of coaching experience, and most recently served as the offensive coordinator for the Ennis Lions -- the football team that won the 2014 Class 5A DII state championship.

“I’d like to thank Dr. Moreno and the board of trustees for allowing me this opportunity to help lead the La Vernia athletic program,” Layne said. “Dr. Moreno has set the challenge of La Vernia ISD to achieve the UIL Lone Star Cup within the next three years. This pursuit is a personal passion of mine, and I will see to it that I work in cooperation with all stakeholders of this district for our students and community to gain this recognition as one of the state’s most outstanding districts.

“It excites me that the leadership of this district has the common goal of excellence paired with a shared vision of how we will achieve this together,” he said.

He is excited about the move to La Vernia with his wife Sarah, and children, Brady, 5, and Jace, 1.

His official first day will be Thursday, April 16.
