He will show you great, mighty things

I was looking out the window at the back yard, admiring how much better it looked after being mowed the day before, when something caught my eye. There she was, just coming through the fence from the neighbors. She moved cautiously, looking back at the fence often and finally stopping. As she watched and waited I saw the kit come through at the same area its mother had. I tried to slip out the door with my phone in hand to get a picture of them but they saw me and ran back through the fence and out of sight.

This gray fox has been coming through my place for several years now and I have seen her little ones a few times. Only once have I been able to get a picture and that was of the whole family, mom, dad, and kit. Later that same day I saw a wild turkey in the yard and that evening an owl visited the trees by my birdbath.

Much as I enjoy that kind of day I can’t help but wonder why all this happens in the same day. Is God trying to show me something or is He just blessing me? I guess really He did both. And just last week He showed me one of His most colorful creations, a coral snake. First one I’ve seen in a few years but you don’t have any trouble identifying a coral snake if you know the code, “red and yellow can kill a fellow, red and black venom lack.” I figured he showed it to me so I would be cautious. I hope He isn’t unhappy with me; I killed it.

Sometimes we don’t know what’s out there, what we need to watch out for, is it good, or should we be cautious. Who do we trust when we aren’t sure? Are we facing a snake in the grass or a wolf in sheep’s clothing? In Jeremiah 33:3 the Lord says, “Call to me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” Trust Him in all things great and small, animal or human. He won’t lead you down the wrong path.

Have a great week and give God the glory!
