’Road rage’ driver gets charges

Police here have charged 43-year-old Sean Kelly Hernandez of La Vernia with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, following an Aug. 28 incident on U.S. 87.

According to Sgt. Danny Pitts of the La Vernia Police Department, Patrolman Miguel Cantu heard a broadcast at approximately 5:08 p.m. about the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup truck who fled after striking another vehicle. Cantu initiated a traffic stop at the Oak Hills Center convenience store between Post Oak and Pullman roads just south of La Vernia.

The victim, also from La Vernia, reported that he was driving on U.S. 87 when his vehicle was struck twice in the rear. The impact pushed his vehicle into the oncoming lanes and eventually into a bar ditch. When Hernandez refused to stop, the victim gave chase and called police.

Pitts said police did not know a motive for Hernandez’s alleged actions, but the report stated that Hernandez “was having a bad week.”

Hernandez was transported to the Wilson County Jail, where records indicate Wilson County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Johnny Tejada Villarreal set his bond at $20,000. As of Sept. 1, Hernandez had posted bond and was released, pending consideration of his case by a grand jury.
