“President Barack Obama crossed the Arctic Circle on Wednesday in a first by a sitting U.S. president, ... .”

Between the Lines

Never one to miss an opportunity, Obama racks up another “first.” He was preaching about global warming to those folks in far-flung areas of Alaska. Obama told us that we Americans are not doing enough to stop global warming, while and his family, and their extensive entourage, continue luxurious vacations all over the world.

“Italy Cost Taxpayers $240,495.67 in Flight Expenses Alone”

Between the Lines

Information obtained from a Freedom of Information request filed by Judicial Watch on June 22 shows that the First Lady, her daughters, and her mother cost taxpayers a pretty penny while in the United Kingdom and Italy.

The flight alone cost taxpayers $240,495.67. The environmentally conscious Obama family’s vacation flight for this trip cost about $11,684 per hour. Oh, that’s right. Saving the environment is for the little people like you and me; it does not apply to the ruling class.

The Judicial Watch organization has requested information from the Secret Service about other costs associated with attending personnel. Judicial Watch reports that the White House claims this trip was part of the First Lady’s “Let Girls Learn” and “Let’s Move” campaigns. I could think of easier ways to promote a healthy lifestyle and teaching girls.

Of course, this was far from the most expensive taxpayer-funded jaunt taken by the first family.

Judicial Watch reports that an extensive combination of trips to Africa and Honolulu cost $15,885,585.30 in flight expenses alone. One of the more expensive of the Obamas’ notorious trips may have been the trip to the 2013 G-8 conference in Belfast.

During that trip, Judicial Watch reports that Michelle Obama required 30 rooms for herself, her family and friends, and support staff in a luxurious five-star hotel. Costs for that many guests add up quickly, but what’s a few million dollars, more or less, when taxpayers pick up the tab?

Judicial Watch is a conservative group that works for integrity in the law, politics, and government, because it believes “no one is above the law.”

It recently released the names of the most corrupt politicians for 2013, topped by President Barack Obama, for what it termed his “catch-me-if-you-can, corrupt politics.”

That same list, however, also includes Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner.

“San Francisco Restaurant Responds to Minimum Wage Hike by Installing iPads”

Between the Lines

Conservatives have warned that dramatic increases in minimum wages would ultimately hurt those whom it was designed to help.

That appears to be the case in San Francisco. With a minimum wage now set at $15 an hour, many restaurants are choosing to close, while others are resorting to more automation. Restaurants will require fewer wait staff as they automate as much of the serving process as possible.

For the consumer, this also means less human interaction. Increasingly, society is gravitating toward using digital interface to replace human face-to-face contact. This is unfortunate, but it’s all “for our own good.”
