Award honors Sherrard for ‘making a difference’
La Vernia’s Quiara Sherrard will be honored with a San Antonio Business Journal C-Suite Award Sept. 24 during a luncheon at the Omni Hotel at the Colonnade in San Antonio.

Quiara Sherrard of La Vernia is among the honorees of the San Antonio Business Journal’s inaugural C-Suite Awards.

The awards are an expansion of the Business Journal’s former CFO Awards to include all C-level executives in four categories. These recognize executives who are making a difference in their companies, their industries, and their communities.

Quiara, chief revenue officer of CommuniCare Health Centers, is among the winners in the C-Suite -- Small/Midsize Companies. The awards will be presented Thursday, Sept. 24, during a luncheon at the Omni Hotel at the Colonnade in San Antonio.

“I’m excited!” Quiara told the La Vernia News. “It’s nice to be recognized. But it’s a group effort. I lead a team of great people. Our accomplishments aren’t the effort of one person, but reflect on the team as a whole.”

According to CommuniCare Health Centers’ Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Ricardo C. Gonzalez, Quiara’s leadership has made a tremendous impact on the company and community. The organization serves the indigent communities of Bexar and Hayes counties, he said, and Quiara oversees the Health Exchange Program, which assisted more than 5,000 residents with application submissions to provide more than 2,100 people with affordable health insurance.

“Ms. Sherrard’s leadership has impacted the organization by streamlining the processes and substantially increasing our collections,” Gonzalez said.

Her efforts have helped the nonprofit organization to continue to provide services to more than 45,000 people who would have been unable otherwise to receive health care, he said.

Quiara and her huband, Dan, have been active members of the La Vernia community since 2010.

Their son, Anthony, is a 2014 graduate of La Vernia High School, who contributed his talents to the Bears baseball team for four years. Their daughter, Savanna, is a La Vernia High School junior and member of the track team.

Quiara served as the board treasurer of the La Vernia Sports Booster Club from 2011-15; Dan now serves in that capacity. Through her work, Quiara has provided opportunities for La Vernia alumni to gain work experience in a health-care setting, providing paid internships in her departments.

The other small/midsize companies honorees of the C-Suite awards include: Chris Weigand, president of Big Red Dog -- San Antonio LLC; Kay Scroggins, president of Clinical Trials of Texas Inc.; Mark Eichelbaum, chief operating officer of Cram Roofing; and Heith Higginbotham, chief financial officer of Well Flow International.
