Bears prep for Sinton

After a 1-2 start to the season, the La Vernia Bear football team enjoyed a bye last Friday. The team will be back on the playing field this week, though, as it travels to Sinton to face a good Pirate football team.

The Pirates are off to a perfect start this season, and the Bears will have their hands full. Sinton started the year with a 57-12 win over Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway, and then shutout Rockport-Fulton in a 21-0 contest. The Pirates’ Sept. 11 game with Rio Hondo was canceled due to weather, but the Pirates played last weekend and handed Beeville Jones a 45-10 defeat.

Senior quarterback Colton Cohea is a dual-threat for the Pirates. He has completed 21 of 36 passing attempts this season for 346 yards and four touchdowns, and has run 28 times for 435 yards and five touchdowns. Running back Lenny Sifuentes also sees a lot of touches for the Pirates, and has 209 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries.

The game between the Bears and the Pirates is set to start at 7:30 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 25.

Go, Bears!
