Join neighbors for National Night Out in LV City Park

Where will you be on Tuesday, Oct. 6? Plan now to meet friends and neighbors in the La Vernia City Park to enjoy National Night Out “America’s Night Out Against Crime.” The city’s event has been recognized with a national award, for providing public and community information on safety, health, public awareness, fire prevention, and more.

Meet members of the La Vernia Volunteer Fire Department (VFD, La Vernia Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the La Vernia Police Department, along with community organizations and nonprofit groups, and see an AirLife helicopter and the Schertz EMS AmBus up close.

Kids of all ages can enjoy meeting the La Vernia High School Mighty Bear Band’s Drum Line, cheerleaders, and mascots, along with McGruff the Crime Dog and Sparky the fire department mascot. Face painting and other children’s activities will be offered, as well.

Get health information from the Connally Memorial Urgent Care Clinic, The Urgent Care Clinic of La Vernia, and Advanced Home Health Care.

Crime Stoppers of Wilson County and members of the La Vernia Police Department will offer crime-prevention and safety information, according to police Sgt. Danny Pitts. Families can have their children fingerprinted for child-safety purposes by members of the Boy Scouts.

“We’re trying to share safety information with kids from a young age, so they grow up with it,” Pitts said.

Enjoy free food, music, and refreshments in the park from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the event.

Hosted by the La Vernia VFD, La Vernia Police Department, and La Vernia EMS, this community event promotes involvement in crime-prevention activities, police-community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie. Communities across Texas send a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
