‘If you were charged with being a Christian ...’

One day, I heard the following comment and it made me wonder and pray: “If you were charged with being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?”

Let’s look at the daily walk with our Lord and see how our lives should be conducted. Let’s look to the Scriptures for direction from God and as we look, have the will to always follow God and His directions.

In Micah 6:8 we read the following: “He has shown you, O man, what is good and what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” And we have the promise in Leviticus 26:12-13, “I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high.”

These are promises that God made to His people in the Old Testament and now let’s look to the New Testament for additional promises from our Heavenly Father.

“At dawn He appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around Him, and He sat down to teach them” (John 8:2). Jesus told the people the ways of God when He was living on the earth and He teaches us each day, if we will listen. He is our teacher, our redeemer, our Savior.

Let’s daily claim this promise as found in 1 John 1:7, “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.” What a beautiful promise for our daily walk with Jesus: We will be purified from all sin and we can walk daily with Him.

2 John 1:6 gives us another promise that we can claim in our daily walk with Him, “And this is love; that we walk in obedience to His commands. As you have heard from the beginning, His command is that you walk in love.” Let’s make it our goal to make love our walking “stick” always thanking God for His love and showing that love to those around us, whether it is family or friends or strangers.

Another scripture that we can claim is 2 John 1:4, “It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us.” Let’s always walk in truth, seeking God’s truth through His Word and listening to the Holy Spirit as He guides us.

So, if we were charged with being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict us? Let’s walk daily in His plan for our lives, seeking always to be near to Him. Our goal should be, “we are not talking the talk, we are walking the walk.”

Strive every day to be near to our Redeemer, always spreading the love of Christ to all whom we encounter. God’s love is glorious!
