Christmas wonder begins with Wassail Walk

Christmas wonder begins with Wassail Walk
Folks enjoy festivities in the La Vernia City Park last December, during the Greater La Vernia Parks Foundation’s “Spirit of Christmas” tree-lighting event. Enjoy this annual event Saturday, Dec. 5, the culmination of the day’s “Wassail Walk,” ushering in the Christmas season in La Vernia.

Catch the holiday spirit on Saturday, Dec. 5, and take part in the all-day festivities as downtown La Vernia celebrates its third annual Chihuahua Trail Wassail Walk.

Stroll around town, visiting participating businesses and enjoy delicious wassail and maybe even hors d’oeuvres and entertainment. This annual event gives businesses a chance to invite La Vernia citizens in to get to know them and their services. Cast a vote for your favorite wreaths in the Chihuahua Trail Wreath Decorating Contest, part of the day’s festivities.

It’s also a great way to get in the holiday spirit and pick up great gifts for everyone on your list! See ad, page 9, for full list of participating businesses.

Begin your stroll at the La Vernia Lions Club’s “Trash & Treasure” Show and Rummage Sale in the La Vernia Church of Christ hall at 131 Industrial Drive. The sale runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Continue your Christmas shopping at the La Vernia United Methodist Church Women’s Christmas Bazaar. This annual event, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., brings artisans and crafters from near and far to offer unique wares, Christmas décor, food, and more. (Read more about the bazaar on page 8.) Find the bazaar in the church’s Family Life Building, 210 Bluebonnet Road (F.M. 775).

Advanced Home Health Services invites visitors to take along the kids, cats, and/or dogs for their “It’s a Country Christmas.” Take photos and enjoy their wassail and hospitality. Open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., you’ll find them at 12966 U.S. 87 W., next to the Valero One Stop.

“Country Christmas in the Cabin” at Be Beautiful/M.A.C. Med Spa adds to the fun, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy outdoor vendors, and sales and specials inside the cabin at 133 Bluebonnet Road, next to the Brahan Masonic Lodge. Santa will arrive in his sleigh at noon.

From noon to 3 p.m., the La Vernia Heritage Museum will be open for visitors to enjoy the final day of the Chihuahua Trail Art Show & Sale, hosted by the La Vernia Historical Association. Find a cup of wassail and works by local artists at the museum, located at the intersection of U.S. 87 and F.M. 775.

The winner of the Chihuahua Trail Wreath Decorating Contest will be announced at 2 p.m. in the museum.

Meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, along with Elf Jingle, at the La Vernia News office from noon to 3 p.m. They’ll be joined by the Drama Kids International Junior Academy students for a Christmas skit performance. Enjoy caroling, wassail, and other refreshments at the newspaper office, at 112 E. Chihuahua St.

Remember to save some time in the evening for the 17th annual “Spirit of Christmas” tree-lighting event, hosted by the Greater La Vernia Parks Foundation in the La Vernia City Park. The event begins at 5:30 p.m., and includes pictures with Santa, music, and more.

The third annual Chihuahua Trail Wassail Walk is sponsored by the La Vernia Municipal Development District and the Greater La Vernia Chamber of Commerce.
