Boy struck by vehicle near LV high school

A 9-year-old boy is recovering from injuries sustained Dec. 18 when he was struck by a vehicle on F.M. 775 near La Vernia High School.

According to Sgt. Danny Pitts of the La Vernia Police Department, the boy identified as Brayden Zepka was not in a crosswalk when he entered the roadway and decided to run back to the curb at approximately 4:45 p.m. The driver of a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe, identified as 84-year-old Ruth S. Ray of Canyon Lake, swerved to avoid Brayden but struck his leg with the vehicle’s right front tire.

Brayden was flown from the scene via Air Life to University Hospital in San Antonio. A spokesman said Dec. 21 that he was listed in stable condition.

Charges have not been filed as the investigation is ongoing, Pitts said.
