Handguns, whether concealed- or open-carry, are not allowed at La Vernia City Hall.
During the Jan. 14 La Vernia City Council meeting, the council approved a resolution to post notices advising this.
The resolution prohibits “... concealed or open carry handguns into any area that houses a public meeting of a government entity that is subject to the Open Meetings Act....”
Some signs have been placed already, said City Administrator Yvonne Griffin Jan. 25. Others, specifically tailored to La Vernia’s needs, are being made.
“All visitors to City Hall must present themselves to reception,” she said, allowing access in accordance with the resolution.
In other action the council:
•Approved the appointment of Audrey Louis as an associate judge
•Approved to call a general election for May 7, for the office of mayor, currently filled by Robert Gregory, and two council seats, currently served by Eloi Cormier and Harold Schott.
