The La Vernia Bears soccer team rolled to a big district road win March 4 at Pleasanton High School against the Eagles with a 5-1 victory.
Against Pleasanton, junior midfielder/forward Miguel De La Torre had a phenomenal game, scoring 4 of the Bears’ 5 goals. He was helped in the cause by junior Rudy Cruz, who scored the team’s other goal and chipped in an assist.
Junior Ricardo Guzman and freshman Brian Beltran also contributed to the win by adding one assist each. In the net, sophomore goalkeeper Shane Thrailkill kept Pleasanton in check with four saves on the night.
La Vernia’s record is now at 11-4-1 and Head Coach Chris Taylor’s squad has cruised out to a 6-1 record in the district. The next game for La Vernia will be at home -- their final home game of the season -- this Friday, March 11, at 7 p.m. against Beeville’s A.C. Jones High School.
