This little piggy ...

This little piggy ...
KEITH MUSCHALEK — The new owner of the Polley Mansion on F.M. 539 near La Vernia was surprised to find this show pig wandering the premises early March 4.

You know the old nursery rhyme: This little piggy went to market. This little piggy stayed home.

This little piggy didn’t make it home, though.

Keith Muschalek, the new owner of the Polley Mansion on F.M. 539, called the La Vernia News March 4, to seek help in finding the owner of this fine swine, that turned up unexpectedly at the historic mansion last Friday.

The tag in the pig’s ear led Keith to think it might belong to an exhibitor in the La Vernia Junior Livestock Show.

While he called the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office to report the found pig, the La Vernia News contacted the Wilson County AgriLife Extension Office and Texas Animal Health Commission to trace the tag number to find the owner.

Shortly after, Sheriff Joe D. Tackitt confirmed he and his staff had located the De Los Santos family at the La Vernia show. They confirmed they’d lost the fine swine as they returned home Friday morning.

Keith reported the family made arrangements to collect “this little piggy” and take him home.

A happy end to this curly tale!
