The La Vernia Independent School District (ISD) board of trustees has accepted a memorandum of understanding with the Nixon-Smiley Consolidated ISD’s Disciplinary Alternative Education Program.
This will be a change for La Vernia, which currently contracts with the Floresville ISD for alternative placement for disciplinary purposes.
The action was among items addressed by the board during its April 4 meeting, said Dr. JosÚ Moreno, the district superintendent, following the meeting.
In other matters, La Vernia Education Foundation President Lacy Felux presented the foundation’s Teacher Innovation Grant intent and process to the board. She advised that teachers who were selected as grant recipients after applying will be recognized in April.
Moreno reminded the trustees of upcoming district bond election “town hall” meetings. The first was set for April 5 at the junior high campus.
Two more are scheduled, to share information about the proposed $33.2 million bond with community members. Meetings include campus tours and are set for the following Tuesdays, beginning at 6:30 p.m.:
ĽApril 19, La Vernia High School
ĽApril 26, La Vernia Junior High School.
