Hello, La Vernia citizens,
It’s been a few months since my last article and lots of projects are getting ready to kick off! First, the city of La Vernia has a new website and I encourage you to check it out. It’s going to be much more informative than our previous version as we strive to make interacting with the city as seamless as possible!
You’ve probably seen crews working on water meters in your neighbor-hood and this citywide meter replacement project is about complete. Some bigger projects getting ready to kick off will be two major waterline improvements that are much needed and will improve our distribution network. Staying with water, the addition of the second water well construction will be kicking off in the next two months, which helps bolster this major resource well into our future.
At last week’s council meeting, our focus was to evaluate our engineer’s recommendation and decide on which streets to repair or replace this year. As for the City Park, you may have heard by now, we applied and have received a grant from Texas Parks & Wildlife and with that money, we will be installing a splash pad fun zone as well as some horseshoe pits and a nine-hole freebie golf course. I really want to publicly thank Yvonne Griffin, our city administrator, and our team’s efforts. They were very integral in getting funding for this project. Coming up in May will be a Night in Ole La Vernia, featuring a concert headlined by “Shenandoah,” and benefiting a very worthy cause, so please come out and enjoy some great country music! Following that will be the annual Lions Club Blue-bonnet Parade on May 21, and this is a tradition in our community, so we hope to see you there! As you can see, lots of things are going on, so please bear with us as we make these major improvements to our great city.
If you have any questions about what I mentioned here or anything else going on in our city, you can reach me at City Hall at 830-779-4541. If you would like to drop me an email, you can do so at email@example.com.
Robert Gregory is the mayor of La Vernia.
