As a kid, did you ever want to fly through the trees just like Tarzan, swinging from tree to tree, and, when the day was done, spend the night in those same trees?
There is a place just west of Austin where your dreams could come true. The Cypress Valley Canopy Tours in Spicewood, just 30 miles west of downtown Austin and 103 miles from La Vernia, is the place for you. If you are looking for fun and adventure, an exhilarating day swinging from the natural canopy of cypress trees or enjoying a bird’s-eye view of life below, this is the place.
Even as veterans of several zipline experiences, it is hard for us to explain the exhilaration of flying through the trees, consciously trying to take in every thrilling moment, every sound, every instruction given by our guides. And, reaching the end, wanting to do it again, and again, and again.
The Cypress Valley Canopy Tour includes five ziplines, two sky bridges, and a rappel with the guided tour lasting from 90 minutes to two hours. The longest zipline is more than 350 feet and participants launch and land onto platforms up to 40 feet high in the trees.
You will be outfitted with climbing gear especially suited for ziplining. As the tour begins, the guides will help you become accustomed to the heights. Through a detailed orientation session, they will carefully point out all the safety features and procedures associated with this sport and assure you of the total safety precautions taken to protect you. They also will point out some of the things that you will see during the course of your tour.
Now, you’re ready! “You and your guides are free to fly through the canopy, taking in the beauty and exhilaration of soaring through the trees.”
Toward the end of the tour, most guests will exit the course by rappelling off the last platform; however, an alternate exit is available for those not inclined to venture down the rappel. After your adventure, you will board an electric cart for your trip back to where you began.
Before and after your canopy tour there are other things to enjoy. You can make a day of it by having a picnic, or swim in their pool or a seasonal private lake. “Whether you come for just the tour or stay the whole day, you are sure to go home with memories you’ll talk about forever.”
But wait! Your adventure is not over. If you want to splurge on a fantastic overnight stay, you can sleep among these trees in one of Cypress Valley’s unbelievable Tree Houses, making a night to remember. Besides enjoying the exotic notion of sleeping among the tall cypress trees, you can experience the best that nature has to offer -- the night noises, watching the fireflies, and overlooking the magical ravine that these magnificent trees follow.
Cypress Valley also offers moonlight zipline adventures, corporate adventures, and meetings and private parties.
The Tree Houses are nestled high up among the cypress trees and offer a variety of amenities, depending on which tree house you select. The Lofthaven, Juniper, and Willow tree houses each sleep two guests; the Nest sleeps four guests regularly, but can accommodate up to six. The Ranch House is on the ground, but the main room feels like a tree house looking into the creek ravine through the treetops and sleeps up to 14.
If you think about it, this could become a true adventure and a quick weekend getaway, where you will be free as a bird.
