The La Vernia Independent School District (ISD) confirmed May 20 the district was notified that former La Vernia High School teacher Theodore De Aubrey, 57, had been arrested that morning on charges of child pornography.
De Aubrey resigned in January, when the school district was notified of a federal investigation under way involving him. La Vernia ISD provided access for the FBI to the former employee’s technology accounts and devices, and was assured by that the allegations did not involve any La Vernia ISD students or use of district technology. The former employee is not a resident of La Vernia, nor did the investigation involve the La Vernia area.
“La Vernia ISD takes these matters very seriously and took immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of our students,” said Superintendent Josť Moreno in a statement May 20. “Situations such as these have a profound impact on communities. Although there was no direct involvement of La Vernia ISD students, we feel that transparent communication is imperative to the community that entrusts us with their children.”
