The La Vernia Independent School District will hold a public meeting Thursday, June 23, at 6 p.m., when members of the public can address the district’s proposed property tax rate.
This will be held in the La Vernia ISD Administration Office on U.S. 87.
The proposed tax rate is $1.366, the highest rate the district can adopt before requiring voter approval at an election. This is a decrease of almost 1 cent from the present rate of $1.375.
The proposed rate comprises $1.04 for maintenance and operations and 32.619 cents for bonded indebtedness. The current rate includes 33.5 cents for debt service.
An average home market value for last tax year was $170,200, with an average tax bill of $1,946.82.
The average home market value at present is $174,931. If the new rate is approved, such a home will incur a tax bill of $2,028.24, an increase of $81.42.
