As the Israelites prepared to enter their promised land, God gave Moses instructions for them to observe so they would always serve God and enjoy a long life. In Deuteronomy 6:6, God commanded His people to: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” God wanted them to share God’s commandments with their children and their children’s children for generations to come.
God told them in verse 7: Talk about them (His commandments) when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates ... verse 12 says: “be careful that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.”
They were entering a foreign land that did not believe in God. They were finally free after living in bondage for many years and God wanted them to be strong spiritually so they would not forget their God and what He had done for them. He also wanted them to share the Word and the miracles with their children and every generation to follow.
Today, we are in a foreign land that for the most part does not honor God and we too need to keep God’s Word continually in our lives so that we are constantly reminded of God and so we will be strong spiritually and live a long life. It is also our duty as God commanded the Israelites to make sure that we share God’s Law with our children so they can also teach their children for generations to come. It is also our responsibility to share God’s Word with those around us.
We should always share God’s Word wherever we are. We can share what God has done for us and invite others to serve God also. We can tell a friend about Jesus when we visit them, ride to work with them, or whenever we come in contact with someone that needs Jesus. God wants us to love Him with all of our hearts and to share God’s love with others so they too can be saved and live a long life.
