There was a lot of tail wagging and fun July 14, as the finalists in the La Vernia News’ 2016 Pet Parade contest joined community members in the newspaper offices for an Open House and awards presentation. Members of the Greater La Vernia Chamber of Commerce attended to make this a chamber social and present door prizes, also.
Thanks to everyone who participated, nominated their furred friends, voted, sponsored the contest, and came out to enjoy the fun and meet Dona and Clarence Yanta of God Bless Us Every One Rescue, the organization that benefited from the $1-per-vote proceeds in the contest. The rescue group received $400 from the annual event.
Carol and Chet Eastin’s Griffen Wooster “Wookie” earned first place and bragging rights as “top dog” in this year’s contest. He’ll be featured in the newspaper and received a prize package that includes a $50 gift certificate from County Line Animal Hospital, a two-year subscription to the La Vernia News, a $25 gift certificate from Mom’s Pet Salon, a gift card from the Mesquite Bean Coffee Shop, and more.
Second and third places also received a variety of gift certificates and other goodies.
Watch for more about the winner of this year’s contest -- Griffen Wooster “Wookie” -- in a coming issue of the La Vernia News.
