Congratulations to the La Vernia volleyball team, which competed in the Aug. 11-13 Jason Landers Invitational Tournament in Austin and placed second out of 38 teams!
The girls had a rough start coming out of the gate. Up first was Harker Heights, who won with scores of 25-17, 25-14. Next was Bowie, who won the match, 25-19, 25-21. The Lady Bears then faced LBJ and won, with scores of 25-11, 25-14.
The team started strong on Friday, during the second round of pool play, winning against Shoemaker first, with scores of 25-20, 25-14. They went up against Marshall next and lost, with scores of 25-11, 25-22. Then they faced McCallum and won with scores of 25-21 and 25-17, putting them in the Gold Bracket.
The girls were on fire for their next two games. They faced Fredericksburg first, winning with scores of 25-22 and 25-13. They then played Lamar and won with scores of 25-22, 21-25, 25-10, to make it to the championship match with Bowie. Despite a strong start, the girls lost again, with scores of 21-25, 25-22, and 25-11, taking second place overall.
Also during the tournament, Brianna Woitaske, Morgan Burns, and Chloe Patton were named to the All-Tournament Team. Go Lady Bears!
