The La Vernia Lady Bear varsity volleyball team, ranked 10th in the state among 4A teams by a recent Texas Girls Coaches Association Poll, continues to take on all comers, with a big win Sept. 13 over the Bandera Lady Bulldogs.

Bandera caught the Lady Bears off guard with a 25-20 win in the first set, but the Lady Bears fought back in the second, securing a 25-17 victory. They carried this momentum into the next two sets with two dominant wins, 25-10 and 25-18.

Kennedy Adams led the Lady Bears with four aces, with Cymbrey Kappmeyer close on her tail with three of her own. Chloe Patton had an outstanding offensive showing with 15 kills, while Adams and Morgan Burns led the team with four blocks each on the defensive end.

La Vernia also won its Sept. 16 match against the McCollum Cowgirls, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 17-25, and 15-10. Their next game was Sept. 20 against the Canyon Lake Lady Hawks in Fischer.

The Lady Bears have their first district game of the season Sept. 27 against the Wimberley Lady Texans in La Vernia.

La Vernia’s junior varsity and freshman volleyball teams had great nights as well.
