The La Vernia boys cross-country team will be making their 10th trip to the University Interscholastic League State Championships.
Senior Aubrey Stewart led the Bears with his 16:26 gold-medal performance. He was followed by Tate Gregory, who placed 22nd at 17:27; Ryel Leija, 24th, 17:30; Bobby Gonzalez, 30th, 17:38; Landon Collins, 45th, 17:57; Josh Krueger, 49th, 18:00; and John Wolf, 108th, 19:03.
The La Vernia girls finished 16th as a team. They were led by lone senior Isabel De La Fuente, 44th, 13:09; Kaitlyn Klepac, 54th, 13:19; Allison Newberg, 83rd, 13:44; Carolina De La Fuente, 116th, 14:17; Annie Dirks, 136th, 14:43; and Belle Skaggs, 140th, 14:48.
“Our athletes ran very well against some terrific competition,” said Head Coach Richard Hinojosa. “We’re excited about State. Our kids are honored to represent La Vernia.”
The State meet is being held Nov. 12 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
