Five members of one family served in World War II
Four sons and a son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Emil D.J. Duelm of La Vernia served in the U.S. military during World War II.

Susan Duelm Richter came across this newspaper article from the Floresville Chronicle from the 1940s.

“It is of my dad, Eugene Duelm, and four uncles who all were serving in the military at the same time in the World War II,” Susan said, adding that the article was part of a La Vernia Heritage Museum exhibit, “La Vernia Remembers Its Veterans.”

Pictured are four sons and a son-in-law of Susan’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Emil D.J. Duelm of La Vernia August, Roland, Fritz, Edward, and Eugene, Susan’s father, who was “somewhere in England” at the time the article appeared.

The only one of the five still living, she said, is August H. Duelm.

“I wanted to share it with you, just because it demonstrates how in those past times, Americans gave their all for God and Country and the government drafted all manpower it could for our armed forces!”

Thank you to the Duelm family, and the countless others who have served in our nation’s military.
