Get great ideas and items for your garden and home at the South Texas Home, Garden & Environmental Show Saturday and Sunday, March 11-12, in Floresville.
Previously Wilson County Gardening Day, it’s grown into an action-packed two days in the Floresville Event Center, at 600 S.H. 97 W.
This free family-friendly event will include classes and seminars, demonstrations, garden and home vendors, and activities for all ages. Hours Saturday are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Purchase bedding and other plants, including Texas natives, and enjoy Saturday’s South Texas Plant Exchange. (See “South Texas Plant Exchange” for more.)
Meet Calvin Finch and Jerry Parsons during their live broadcast both days of “Milberger’s Gardening South Texas” on KLUP radio. Learn about birds of prey with a presentation by “Last Chance Forever” -- a nonprofit organization that helps injured or orphaned birds of prey. Try your hand at fly casting and fly tying, with Alamo Fly Fishers.
Enjoy classes on growing tomatoes, Texas Super Star plants, the San Antonio River, rain-barrel construction, and growing roses. Discover how to create a butterfly-friendly landscape -- and pick up some milkweed to attract monarch butterflies. Register for a landscape class on Saturday; the $25 fee covers all materials, and will help establish a Master Gardener chapter in South Texas.
Sponsors include the Wilson County News, Milberger’s “Gardening South Texas,” KLUP 930 AM radio, San Antonio River Authority (SARA), San Antonio Water System (SAWS), Texas AgriLife Extension Service, the Floresville Chamber of Commerce, and Master Gardener Chapters of Guadalupe, Bexar, Comal, and Gonzales counties.
